Wondering About the Future
Sorry for the recent absence from blog posting. Here is an update about my current situation:
Three Weeks Without an Apartment
As I mentioned in my post about the past year’s journey, one of the main reasons I got a regular job and came to Europe was to free up time to work on memory. It hasn’t been working out very well though. My life is still a bit too crazy, and I’m not sure what to do about it.
My apartment is under renovation at the moment, and I’ve been in an unstable situation for about three weeks. The construction was only supposed to take one week, but the workers don’t show up on some days, and they seem to be wasting time.
I went to Budapest for a week, and now am living in a shared dorm room at a hostel in Vienna. The logistics and stress of not having a stable place to sleep, cook, or relax are taking up a lot of my time.
At this point, I don’t know whether I will be able to achieve Grand Master of Memory this year. I haven’t had much time or energy to focus on it with everything else that is going on. It is difficult to concentrate when I’m living in a dorm room with three strangers and have no quiet place to go. I’ve been working on numbers, but not cards other than to create a set of 26-stage journeys for competitions. I’m going to have to think about my long-term memory goals as soon as I can work out the complications here with my work and housing. More news soon.
