I went to a bookstore yesterday, looking up lists of animals, objects, and mythological characters that might fit in my mnemonic system.

Moonwalking with Einstein is a book by Joshua Foer that looks at the modern revival of the 2,500 year old craft of memory. The book describes the journey of the author as he goes from a journalist who is writing an article about memory competitions, to a mental athlete, obsessed with the sport, who eventually wins the 2006 USA Memory Championship. Memrise.com is a very interesting website for learning languages, created by Greg Detre and Ed Cooke, mnemonist and author of Remember, Remember.
The website is still beta, but looks like it has a lot of potential. I’ve been going through the Mandarin characters section. The software shows a character with suggestions for mnemonics. Anyone can add a new mnemonic or edit an existing one. Read more
