Grape Juice to Improve Memory?

I just came across an article that suggests drinking grape juice can reduce memory loss:

Scientists from the University of Cincinnati’s psychiatry department carried out a study which involved 12 people with early memory loss drinking pure 100 per cent Concord grape juice for 12 weeks…

The results showed an improvement the longer the trial went on in the half of the group who were drinking the juice, which is made from grapes grown in the Concord region of New Hampshire, USA.

Experts believe this proves the brain-boosting powers of antioxidants contained in the skin and juice of the grapes.

I wonder if there is any benefit for people who don’t have memory loss. Would eating any food high in antioxidants have the same effect? (E.g., prunes )

  • For most of 2009 I ate a diet (strict vegan) high in antioxidant foods and lots of blueberries. I exercised 1-2 hours a day. I didn’t notice a cognitive benefit. I always thought my best cognitive functioning came when I had fueled up with candy bars and sugary drinks. I also felt a much higher level of cognitive functioning when I was cramming for a final and had the fear (adrenaline) failing after not studying (or studying everything but my schoolwork) all semester.

    Now, I have read reputable scientific/medical articles that say sugar, caffeine, and adrenaline improve cognitive (memory) functioning. Apparently the reason people who have been in combat can recall all the details and have hyper-awareness is because of the release of adrenaline. If someone is serious about improving his memory championship performance he or she might consider taking shots of adrenaline.
